Richard Montoya
District Conservationist
Grants, New Mexico
With NRCS since 1982
It is obvious when you are with Richard that he has a true passion for the
people and lands of Cibola County, New Mexico. He recently has been engage with
the land grant area in his district, working on acequias or common ditches. He
also works with farmers in the area on cropland improvement through improved
irrigation practices, and with the ranchers of the Acoma Pueblo who have been
successful on several Environmental Quality Incentives Program contracts.
For the past several years, Montoya has provided leadership in both the Grants
field office and Crownpoint office. It has been only recently that this
combined effort was recognized by combining the service of both offices.
Montoya has the capacity to “lead” from behind, enabling new Soil and Water
Conservation District chairpersons to gain the confidence they need to
facilitate local work group meetings and ensuring all the information needed for
the local proposals is obtained. This has enabled all partners present to have
an opportunity to express resource concerns, ideas, and suggestions.
He has made it his
purpose to be consistently outstanding in his work ethic, conservation values,
and leadership. |
