EQIP Applications Urged

NRCS New Mexico is urging immediate submittal of EQIP applications to avoid any delays that could occur as a new Farm Bill, and the regulations that will be necessary to implement it, are being instituted. Dennis Alexander, NRCS State Conservationist, is saying NRCS is taking the step to move forward with the FY 2008 program now, because we face several unknowns. NRCS and the New Mexico Association of Conservation Districts have collaborated and are publishing "A Guide for Planning Riparian Treatments in New Mexico" That is chuck full of illustrations and photos of inventory, analysis, and design of riparian restoration. Keep tuned to your local NRCS Field and Soil and Water Conservation District offices for your copy.

The Piedra Liza Dam Project that took place during the spring and summer of 2007, corrected all of the major deficiencies of the existing structure, and helped assure the dam will continue to provide flood protection for downstream users for another 100 years.
